Been whipping my back since I was a defender

So long ago that I can hardly remember
Then someone told me it’s OK to remember
That self-punishment is not the way to surrender, surrender

That voice inside is asking “you really thought it would?”

We could do it if we dig ourselves thru it
Dig ourselves thru it
Finding the light switch that will help us get thru it
We can do it, lets go thru it
But way deep down behind my silly frown
